Freshman Kyla West sets new goals for herself every week in cross country.
“I always hope that I can get a lower time.” West said.
At the Ottawa Invitational the girls placed second and the boys got fourth on Sept. 26. Then on Oct. 1 against Pittsburg the girls placed fourth and the boys placed second. Against Mill Valley the girls placed 11th and the boy’s place 16th on Oct. 8. At the League Meet in Louisburg the girls placed fourth and the boys placed sixth on Oct. 15.
West said at cross country practices they do long runs and hard workouts to help prepare them for meets. Each week they run about 27 miles.
She said the teammates who run at the beginning of the group are great leaders.
“The thing I like most about cross country are probably the people,” West said. “We’re like a family; we come together and have fun.”
