Powderpuff 2013

Junior Tiana Moala can’t wait to beat the seniors and have a good time at the Powderpuff game. However, Moala said the planning that goes into setting up the game can be hard and stressful.
“[I] had to design T-shirts and work at the sign-up tables,” Moala said.
Senior Mackenzie Getz also had a lot to do as well to make the game possible.
“A lot goes into it,” Getz said, “There’s T-shirts, order forms, flyers, deciding on the date, permission slips, getting cheerleaders and refs and contacting Harvesters.”
Harvesters is an organization with a holiday meal program that distributes donated food over the holidays. Food donations and money are two different ways you can get in November 12.
Moala said she wasn’t told how to design the T-shirts and she didn’t want to have yellow. So she changed them to pink. This resulted in a meeting between the juniors and seniors about the color.
“I didn’t think [the T-shirts] were a big deal, but the juniors didn’t want to fight with the seniors,” Moala said.
The seniors had to wear yellow shirts last year so they didn’t want the juniors to be able to wear them, Getz said, and the intention was not to be mean. Getz said that there was miscommunication and that she hopes everybody has learned from the mistakes made.
“I really don’t care. It’s whatever they wanted to do. Nothing’s fair and things change all the time,” Getz said.
The rivalry between the juniors and seniors for the game has already started and people are already smack talking, Moala said.
Getz said she does not know of a rivalry but said there might be some love-hate relationships between opponents.
Regardless of the pre-game issues, Getz has a lot of expectations coming into the game.
“I hope the cheerleaders come out with a wicked dance,” Getz said.
She also hopes a lot of money is raised for Harvesters, that she will get some playing time and that it will be all fun with no drama.
Moala also expects a fun game.
“I’m hoping to get a few touchdowns so I can do my celebration dance,” Moala said.
It’s a fun thing to do Moala and Getz agreed.
“I like how the whole class comes together and just has a fun time together,” Getz said.
The post- game score was 7-6, with the seniors claiming victory.
