New math teacher Michael Golden went to the MidAmerica Nazarene University, his first teaching job is here at Paola High School. Originally Golden wanted to be a mechanic.

“I had an awesome math teacher my senior year of high school that made me really interested in if I could be a math teacher. I actually had thought I was going to be a mechanic and then within a matter of months I decided to be a math teacher before I went to college,” Golden said.

Golden was approached by Mr. Bressler at a career day his college was hosting. Golden’s first impression of Paola High School is a friendly place people can come to love. He himself loves it here saying everyone is friendly and helpful.

One thing Golden wants to active teaching here is students gaining more confidence in math.

“I hope to give students confidence about math; that they would leave my class knowing they know more about math then when they came in and they are confident in their math skills,” Golden said.

Angela Roschevitz 10, is in one of Golden’s Algebra 2 classes. She says one reason she likes him is because he teaches at her pace.

“He knows how to teach me at a pace that I can fully understand what we are learning,” she Roschevitz .

Roschevitz said he isn’t any different from former math teachers she’s had.

“Because he does what all math teachers do when you don’t understand a question, they review what you don’t understand and go over it again to make sure you got it,” she Roschevitz.

The only difference about him and other teachers is that he teaches at a more simple pace.

“He takes it slow in a way and it isn’t like BAM! That’s how this is solved. It’s like here’s how we go through these steps and how we solve this,” she Roschevitz.
