The Royals Win the World Series-Parade

Seniors Jordan Bulcock, Paul Copeland and sophomore Bryce Huber said they attended the Royals parade on Nov. 3 to celebrate the World Series win.
“It was a lot of fun but there were just so many people it was hard to see the players. I mean it was fun to see all the people there in their royals gear and fun to see how our city can really come together,” Huber said.
According to KMBC, about 800,000 people attended the parade.
“It was quite the experience, Copeland said. “It was really cool to be there with everyone.”
All three said their favorite person to see was Salvador Perez, catcher. Both Bulcock and Copeland said they did not stay for the pep rally.
“Just seeing those guys go up on stage and watching Jonny Gomes tell everyone about how they beat everybody was exciting,” Huber said.

Seniors Sammie Dyer, Blaze Hobbs, Shelbie Bennett and junior Rheanna Leckner said they attended the Royals parade.
Leckner said she left Paola at 10:30 and claimed the parking downtown was terrible. She said she had to walk more than 24 blocks one way.
Bennett said walking wasn’t an issue until they had to leave. She said she shuttled from Overland Park to downtown.
Sophomore Sydney Custer said she stood against the fence the entire parade and saw each of the players.
“Seeing the players get out of the trucks and come thank us was so cool. They showed it wasn’t just about them, it was about our community,” Custer said.
Leckner said she climbed a bus stop and watched from the top.
“I could have gotten pictures of [the player’s] faces if I wanted,” Leckner said.
Hobbs said she was one of the few who made it into the pep rally.
“I made it but I couldn’t see or hear anything,” Hobbs said.
Leckner said by the time they arrived to the pep rally they were not allowing any more fans inside.
None of the students said they regretted missing school.

Seniors Grant Boehm and Cole Rogers, and sophomore Alaura Gage said they attended the Royals parade.
“It was absolutely worth it,” Boehm said. “I learned so many things about the Royals. I wasn’t really that involved before, but now I am.”
Gage said she wouldn’t have missed it for the world.
“It was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” she said. “It was really cool to have such a sense of community. We were all celebrating together and happy.”

Freshmen Garrett Weers and Seth Richmond said they attended the Royals parade. Weers said he was close enough to see the players.
“I enjoyed going and being with the people I was with,” Weers said.
Richmond said he enjoyed seeing so much support for the Royals.
“One thing is that I wished school had been canceled for the parade,” Richmond said.

Senior Shaylyn Holcomb, junior Mackenzie Grandon, and sophomore Matthew Bevis also attended the Royals Parade. They said it was an experience they didn’t want to miss.
Bevis said it took about two hours to arrive at the parade and he had to walk a mile-and-a-half. Grandon and Holcomb said they had less of a problem.
“We stayed with my grandpa and he lives in downtown so we walked there,” Grandon said.
All of them said they were glad they went to the parade because it was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
“It was worth it to miss school because it’s a historical event,” Holcomb said.
Bevis said while the crowd was crazy, in the long run it was worth it.
“The people were crazy and insane,” Bevis said. “Some of them were pushing and shoving, but it was still a lot of fun.”
