Time in the gym is focused on building definition and getting yourself stronger.
Jade Meade, senior, believes that definition outweighs the size.
“I believe in the definition for than the size of the arm because it shows how tone you’re getting by lifting,” Meade said.
Meade said she loves lifting and being in the gym, after tearing her ACL she couldn’t do what she loves for an extended period of time.
“My biggest challenge has definitely been tearing my ACL. I was unable to lift or workout for a couple weeks,” Meade said
According to Meade the hardest part of her injury, not being able to be active.
“It was really hard because you go from being super active to not being able to do anything,” Meade said. “Tearing my ACL has been a setback by decreasing my maxes and having to re-build my muscles from the atrophy of not being able to do anything.”
Darin Gagnebin, athletic director believes all athletes should work on and off the field
“If you are an athlete, you absolutely need to be in the gym, working out with a program that involves all aspects,” Gagnebin said. “I believe athletes and non-athletes alike should have some sort of physical routine in their lives to promote a healthy life long lifestyle.” He continued “That lifestyle may be anything from simply walking everyday for 20-30 minutes all the way up to a workout that includes weights and cardio workouts.”
Though she isn’t an athletic director, Brailee Wicker, freshman, also believes in definition over size. She said, “There are workouts that make your muscles bigger and workouts to make you stronger”.
She continued “If you do the workouts that give you bigger muscles, it doesn’t always mean you will be stronger”. According to Wicker, sometimes you have to focus on the workouts that give you physical results and not the visuals. She believes she troubled some when it comes to motivation. “motivating myself to get better has always been a struggle.”
She also believes she struggled with her concussion. “[My concussion] only held me out a couple 8th grade basketball games but once I got cleared, it was hard to get back to normal.”
Like Brailee, Brock Johnson, sophomore, needs to be in the gym to stay in shape for his sport, wrestling.
“I am pretty consistent, I go as much as possible. Normally about 5 times a week, or whenever I have time.” Johnson likes doing workouts for definition because it is making him better. “I like workouts like definition because I am making myself a better athlete and actually getting a better gain.”
