Senior Spotlight: Skyler Hughes

Senior Skyler Hughes is journalism’s organizational editor. When Skyler first heard about school closings she felt upset and worried.
“My first reaction was the yearbook is not done yet,” said Hughes.
Since then the panic has worn off, Hughes said going through the stay at home order and living through the pandemic is a life experience. With the yearbook complete, online school hasn’t been very complicated for Hughes. The hardest part for Hughes is not seeing her teachers and all of the friends she has grown up with. It has also made her position in journalism a little more difficult.
“It is harder not seeing how everyone is doing. I like to help everyone and see their process,” Hughes said.
To keep busy, Skyler works at Walmart and keeps up with her school work. Hughes’s most valued part of high school has been her journey within.
“My favorite part has been finding myself and figuring out who I am as a person, but at the same time knowing, I will keep changing,” she said.
After finishing her senior year, Hughes plans to continue working and eventually pursue a career in cosmetology.
“I have always had dyed hair and played with makeup, so it feels natural,” said Hughes.
