“Hiiii schooool,” said Rowan West, senior, during an announcement at the end of a school day, to announce his new T-shirts which were being sold to help his church with their upcoming mission trip.
“All the profits from the T-shirts go towards the Hurricane Dorian clean up mission trip from Lighthouse Church. My youth pastor (Elias Wedde) and I made the Westside T-shirts, and we made them because I thought it would be really cool to see the school in the T-shirts and I’ve learned that a ton of people support Westside Turbine,” said West.
He got the idea to produce a T-shirt design from Haleigh West, senior, during a conversation during advisory.
“I walked into advisory one day talking about Westside Turbine and the progress we’ve made on the logo and such, and Haleigh said something like, ‘hey you should make T-shirts with the logo,’ and I’m not sure if she meant it seriously, but I made it happen.”
West was named Homecoming King on Feb. 7, with Haleigh West, homecoming queen, by his side.
“It was really cool to see everyone in the stands cheer when they introduced me. My family, on the other hand, was so surprised because they thought I was a big nerd and not really popular,” West said.
Another aspect that sets West apart from many of his classmates is his love for the Nintendo character, Kirby — a little pink ball that loves food, takes powers from his enemies, destroys planets and kills demons, he said.
“ I once dressed as Kirby because I like Kirby, and it was pretty funny, I made a lot of people laugh that day, and to make someone happy is never a bad thing,” West said.
