Led by head coach Michelle Abshire, seniors Cheyenne Rankin and Malorie Nelson look to improve on last year’s .500 season and loss in the Sub-State Championship game.
Abshire said she has high expectations for the season.
“I would like for us to have 25 wins, win league, win Sub-State and to win the Kansas Volleyball Association’s team academic award, which we have won since it was created in 2000,” she said.
Senior Malorie Nelson has similar goals.
“This season we should work hard, win league, and hopefully go to State,” Nelson said.
Abshire said the team needs to improve their play this year.
“We need to limit our unforced errors this season to improve on last year,” Abshire said.
Abshire also added that the team has some strengths to help a deep run in the post season.
“We had a young team last year and the playing time they got last year was valuable and will pay off this season,” Abshire said.
Nelson agreed with Abshire on the team’s strengths.
“Having more than one returning starter is an advantage,” Nelson said “We also have good leadership on the team.”
Nelson said that their schedule may help them out.
“Our schedule is pretty much the same as last year, so we know more of what to expect,” Nelson said.
