While some students prefer the typical sports like basketball, football, and baseball others enjoy a less well known sport.
Senior Alex Neubecker started playing rugby this year. Rugby is a combination of soccer and football said Neubecker.
Neubecker got started playing when someone from his summer camp told him he should give it a shot.
“Everyone should experience it,” said Neubecker.
Senior Isaac Scroggie throws tomahawks in his spare time.
“I got a toy from the Emporium [on the Square] and started playing with it,” said Scroggie. “Now I have a few bigger, real tomahawks.”
Scroggie taught himself how to throw the tomahawks by teaching himself.
“It’s really not that hard you just have to think about the distance and the amount of spins it has to do,” said Scroggie.
Scroggie doesn’t compete. It’s just a hobby. Other students, like junior Jobie Debrick prefer playing ping pong over sharp objects.
Debrick started playing with his cousin Kreston Debrick when he was 6. Debrick and Kreston host a tournament on the July 4 each year and are in charge of the ping pong tournament to benefit Heads Up on May 4.
“[Ping pong} is a sport, it is on a professional level, there are sponsors, you can get paid for it, and it’s international,” said Debrick.
