Prom requires more work for some than others. Prom sponsor Missy Thompson said she put in 80 hours after school and spends the whole school day on Friday working on prom related things. Jacinda Dent, vice president of prom committee, said the committee has worked for three hours every Sunday for the last three months. Being on the committee has taught Dent an important lesson. “It’s taught me that even something that makes you stress out is worth it in the end,” said Dent. Conner Karigan, president of prom committee, learned patience and organization skills from being on the committee. Prom committee members aren’t the only students working on prom. Thompson said about 22 people signed up to help with the build on Friday and clean up on Sunday. Junior Kayla Paul said she signed up for prom build because she felt it was her obligation to do so. “It wouldn’t be fair to the other juniors if I went to prom and didn’t help,” said Paul. Thompson said helping with prom setup makes prom more important. Karigan agreed and said it was a huge accomplishment. Paul said prom will be special because of the work she put in to it, but not special because it won’t be a surprise. “Prom is going to be successful,” said Thompson. “It always is.”
