During the school day senior Joe McCrackin roams the halls with a trash can in hand, but this isn’t a punishment – it’s his job.
McCrackin started cleaning the school last year when he was looking for classes to fill his schedule.
Although McCrackin doesn’t get paid, he gets one credit for his job. He chose this job because he wanted to help out the custodian.
Head custodian Craig Henness has worked as a janitor for 42 years and in Paola for seven years. He said the school is not challenging to keep clean because the students do a good job picking up after themselves.
Compared to all of the hallways in the school, the sophomore hallway is the dirtiest, Henness said.
The sophomore hallway is not a mess, he said, but compared to all of the other hallways, it is the dirtiest.
Recently the school did have a maintenance issue when parts of the drama room ceiling fell.
Henness said that it was because of a water leak. He added that this was not the only location in the school which had leaks.
