New teacher Baylee Teagarden said she has adopted Paola Health and P.E. students as her own. Teagarden said she graduated from K-State with a bachelors degree in Financial Planning, and then decided to change it and get her masters in Education from Pitt State.
“Paola is great,” Teagarden said. “All the kiddos have been great, it has such a small-town feel, everyone knows everyone and I really like that.”
Teagarden said she taught Family and Consumer Science at Harmon High School in Kansas City, Kan. for three years. She taught the Consumer Resource Management, Foods, and Parenting Classes, as well as coaching cross country.
Teagarden said many of the teachers and students have been doing a good job of welcoming her.
“The teachers have really gone out of their way to stop by say ‘hi,’ and introduce themselves,” Teagarden said.
She said what surprised her most was the students.
“I’ve seen a lot of students helping other students,” Teagarden said. “I’ve been kind of surprised to see how the older kids look out for the younger kids, or even vice versa, I’ve been really proud of what I’ve seen.”
