A foreign exchange student from Barcelona, Spain, junior Mariona Olasz said she wanted to try something new.
“I really like to write, read and take pictures,” Olasz said. “[Journalism class] is something I don’t have back home. It’s also a chance to make new friends.”
Olasz said she has a special interest in photography.
“I take a lot of pictures of the sun, the shadows of the trees,” Olasz said. “When I was in Barcelona I would go on walks in the city and take pictures of the people and the streets. I love photography because it helps you remember a moment and how you felt when you took it.”
In addition to taking photos, Olasz said she enjoys hiking, running and playing her guitar. She also played volleyball in Barcelona and was enrolled in music classes.
Olasz said she plans to try other activities this school year. Among them are cross country and drama club.
“It was very hard for me to leave…and I’ve made this effort to come here, so I want to try as much as I can and take a lot of experiences back home with me,” Olasz said.
Olasz said she was first amazed by the vast amount of fields the high school has for sports.
“I think that since my school is in the city, we don’t have the space you have. [In Barcelona,] they build up, where here, you build out,” Olasz said.
