Is it publicly acceptable to walk on all fours? What about eating boogers? Is it an option to sleep at work? Of course it’s an option. However, is it smart to risk your job? No, it’s just not worth it. Hygiene is a direct correlation.
Is it publicly acceptable to never shower? What about leaving one’s hands unwashed after close contact with the toilet? Is it an option to not wear deodorant? It may be an option, but is it worth smelling all day? Is it worth the humiliation of constantly scattering crowds?
Personal hygiene has been taught since day one. Despite the battle, parents always manage to get their children bathed each night before bed. Children are taught to wash their hands before they sit at the table for dinner. They aren’t allowed to go play until they brush their teeth in the morning.
As soon as puberty hits, is all of this former knowledge, which has been ingrained in everyone’s brain, just magically forgotten? Plus, if I’m not mistaken, isn’t this the time hygiene becomes a top priority? This is the time of life where the smelly body odors begin. This is when hair begins to grow, which collects sweat, aiding in the harvesting of stinky bacteria. Puberty is when people begin to sweat profusely, and this isn’t confined to just armpits.
The solution to this phenomenon can be found at your local drug store. Just buy some deodorant and please decide to actually use it. Do everyone a favor and put hygiene on the top of your list.
I realize not everyone is economically stable enough to launder clothes and bathe. However, there are showers and sinks in the locker rooms accessible to every student.
Not only do I see people with zero hygienic skills, but I’m constantly running into those who are trying, but just aren’t succeeding. It isn’t enough to spray a huge cloud of fragrance to cover up a tough stench. Gentlemen, please lay off the Axe, and ladies, you don’t need to smell strongly to smell good. It’s not pleasant to walk down the hall and suddenly be hit with an atomic bomb of shower substitute. All it does is blend with the stench, not kill it.
It baffles me how difficult it is for some people to stay clean and smell free. School would be a much better place if only everyone acted in the daily ritual of cleanliness. Please help make that a reality by remembering hygiene isn’t an option.
