Allison Enneking, new choir teacher, is adjusting to the high school. Although this is her first teaching job, she said she feels that while the choir is not yet prepared for the concerts this year, they will be soon.
“I am impressed to see that so many students in this school are so involved in choir,” she said. “I feel like I have gotten to know a good chunk of the students.”
Enneking said she had a choir teacher in high school who had the students sit there and listen to the teacher play songs on the piano and learn it by ear instead of really learning to read music. She really loved music and wanted to go on to do it when she went to college, but when she got there, she realized she didn’t actually know what she was doing.
“This school year I am looking forward to getting closer to a concert that will be great, when we are able to put all of the pieces together,” she said. “Right now we have just opened the puzzle box, and we still don’t know how all of the pieces will fit together.”
Enneking said she would like to be a student in her own classroom because she didn’t have many teachers in high school who pushed her to be better. She knows it won’t be popular with some people, but she said she wants to help them to improve.
