With beautiful fall weather right around the corner, Michael Solomon said he is excited to start his journey teaching at the high school.
Solomon, the new band teacher, grew up in Boone, Iowa. He attended the University of Kansas and got his bachelors degree in Music Education.
This is Solomon’s first year teaching. He said his favorite part of teaching band is Friday night marching performances.
“I love the atmosphere of Friday nights,” Solomon said. “Beautiful fall weather and everyone is excited. It’s a great time for students, parents and community to come together and enjoy themselves.”
Solomon said he loves to play the trumpet; his favorite song to play “Let It Be” by The Beatles.
“I have always loved music and working with kids, so a music teacher made sense,” Solomon said.
Brenna Sherman, 12, said she has adapted well to Solomon.
“The band is more organized and everyone has fun,” Sherman said. “Everyone is so much more relaxed.”
Ever since middle school, Sherman said she has wanted to be a music teacher so she has become drum major.
“Mr. Proctor inspired me to be a music teacher,” Sherman said. “Ever since my very first football game I saw it and immediately wanted to do it.”
Solomon has pushed Sherman to reach her dreams.
“I am so proud of the things Mr. Solomon has accomplished,” Sherman said. “I am excited to be his student.”
Solomon said he looks forward to making music, working hard and having fun with the students.
“I want my students to grow both as a person and musician,” Solomon said.
